Maintain well-being and quality of life.

Many older adults face changes that affect memory, communication, mobility, and emotional wellbeing. For those living with dementia or other cognitive challenges, these changes can make it harder to connect with others, express feelings, or stay engaged in daily life. Finding meaningful ways to support independence, comfort, and connection becomes more important than ever.

Music therapy is more than listening to familiar songs — it’s a research-based, compassionate approach that uses music to spark memories, reduce agitation, encourage movement, and create moments of joy. At OC Music Services, we provide music therapy designed for older adults and memory care, offering meaningful opportunities for engagement, comfort, and connection.

Our board-certified music therapists use evidence-based techniques to support cognitive function, reduce anxiety, promote social interaction, and nurture emotional wellbeing. No music experience is needed — only a willingness to share in the experience.

This chapter of life can still be filled with beauty, joy, and connection. Through music therapy, older adults can engage their minds in new and stimulating ways, find comfort in familiar melodies, and share meaningful experiences with others.

Led by our board-certified music therapists, each session blends structured musical activities with evidence-based interventions tailored to your needs.

Through songwriting, instrumental play, guided listening, and creative expression, sessions are personalized to help you:

  • Reduce anxiety and overwhelm

  • Encourage and prompt physical movement

  • Trigger memories and stimulate mind

  • Share moments of meaningful connection

  • Explore legacy through music creation

Individual and Group Sessions

While group music therapy offers social connection and shared experiences, individual sessions may be a better fit for those who benefit from a quieter, more personalized setting. One-on-one sessions allow the music therapist to tailor each activity to the individual’s specific cognitive, physical, or emotional needs, adjusting the pace and goals in real time.

FAQs

Do I need a referral to start?

No referral is needed. You can contact us directly to schedule a consultation. While we often collaborate with therapists or doctors, you’re welcome to reach out on your own or on behalf of a loved one.

Do you take insurance?

OC Music Services is not in-network with insurance providers. However, we are happy to provide detailed superbills  that you can submit to your insurance company for possible out-of-network reimbursement. Coverage varies depending on your plan, so we recommend contacting your provider to ask whether board-certified music therapy (by an MT-BC) is eligible for reimbursement.

We’re also happy to answer questions or provide documentation to help with the process.

Do I need to have musical experience?

Not at all! No prior music experience is required. Music therapy is about using music as a tool for healing—not performance.

Where are sessions held?

Sessions are offered in-person at our Irvine studio, in the comfort of your home or care facility or online via secure telehealth, depending on what’s most comfortable and accessible for you. Both options are designed to provide a supportive, engaging, and private environment.
