Hippity Hop and Hippity Hey
Happy April OCMS family!
Today I want to share my FAVORITE Easter/Spring song. You may have heard it before in one of your child’s playlists or during one of our music therapy sessions. It’s called Five Little Bunnies by The Kiboomers. You can view and listen below.
I love this song because one; it’s catchy, and two; there’s so many skills we can work on with it!
1- Counting and Subtracting
The most obvious skill is counting numbers and subtracting each bunny by one each time they “hop away”. I love to using objects and manipulatives during therapy and lessons because they are engaging and offer yet another way to learn through touch.
I found these adorable bunny erasers at the Dollar Tree and as my students have said… “These are soooo cute!!”. XD
We start with 5 bunnies and one-by-one hop them away after asking “How many bunnies are left?”.
2- Rhythm
The words “Hippity Hop” must be golden because the kids seem to love saying them and clapping the rhythm along to them!
You can clap and sing along to the song. Music students can use these free print outs to practice clapping and writing quarter notes and rests. Download below!
3- Movement
This is a perfect song to get some sillies out by hopping in a circle or to a spot! Use the following visual to pair the instruction “hop like a bunny”. See how high your child or student can jump or how fast/slow/far.
